Random musings from a football mind…..

  • Fully aware that Kenny Pickett vs.  Atlanta a few preseasons ago has broken our trust of anything good in games in August. But….I’d rather see what we saw on Thursday from our 3 QBs than a bad performance. It’s all relative. And it’s August. No overreaction here.
  • Dylan Cook isnt the answer at RT. Maybe its him wearing number 60 as a Tackle. Maybe its the fact that there probably are many reasons why he’s almost 29 and has started 5 NFL games so far. But it’s probably because the Steelers have a 1st round investment wearing a real RT number waiting in the wings.
  • Allar just looks like an NFL QB. Long way to go though.
  • The depth in the secondary is unreal. Going to be some tough decisions for the final 53.
  • Lots of penalties. Some big ones too, but most of them seem to have come from the ‘aggression’ variety. This is what happens when you finally get to hit someone in another uniform.
  • I am excited about the possible weapon that Wetjen could become. He has a mix of a Ryan Switzer and a mix of Calvin Austin.
  • While most of the playcalling on Thursday was vanilla, they changed things up a lot and had a lot of plays that Steelers hadn’t seen before. Can’t wait to see when the full playbook is available to the entire roster.
  • Caleb Johnson not seeing any 1st half playing time doesn’t bode well for the 2nd year RB.
  • The field looked good at Acrisure. Let’s see it after a huge Pitt/Boston College game on a Saturday in October, followed by a 1pm Steelers game.
  • Robert Tonyan could end up being a low-key signing. Obviously has a good relationship with Rodgers and would fill a need as a 3rd TE.
  • Elandon Roberts signing mid-week points to Malik Harrison not being a Steeler much longer. Harrison didnt do much last year and his decent cap savings number don’t bode well for him moving forward.
  • We need to get Cam Johnston a new number. 19 ain’t cutting it.
  • It’s been said a ton already, but having someone like Mike McCarthy at HC is a breathe of fresh air. Offensive mind, innovative, QB developer. And Yinzer. Do not discount that last fact. He feels it. The burden of being the guy leading his childhood team. And I think he’s going to be great at it.
